‘If’ by Rudyard Kipling

You may well have seen me on Twitter ask for some help with a little project Year 4 are starting tomorrow. As part of their poetry topic in Literacy they are going to look in detail at the poem ‘If’ by Rudyard Kipling.

I asked if there was anyone who was prepared to perform this in a dramatic and emotive way for the pupils to listen to. It somehow doesn’t sound quite right with a Bolton accent!

It doesn’t matter how many people send us a recording as the pupils will be having a go at performing it themselves and to hear more than one person’s interpretation will be good for them. Here is the poem:Above taken from:

Any audio format will be great and if you could either attach it to an email and send it to:

that would be great! All gender/accents are welcome!

Thanks to all the people from Twitter who have helped create this wonderful bank of renditions of Rudyard Kipling’s ‘If’ poem.
Zoe Ross, Dughall McCormick, Chris Leach, Kristian Still, Mr. Viracca, Penny Patterson, Tom Whitehead, Bev Evans, Roger Neilson and Jackie Schneider. It’s not too late! If you’d like to add yours to the Voicethread below please feel free! We are also expecting some more throughout today and this evening. Once again… many thanks.

I doubt a Glasgow accent would be better than a Bolton one.

Thanks for the links! We have had a look at the versions online and weren’t too impressed! I’ll take a look at them now! Nothing wrong with your accent! If you want to have a go we’d love that! Thanks.

Just looked at those links, I agree with you about Harvey’s rendition!
I quite like an old Dennis Hopper version there, on the Johnny Cash Show:
And don’t forget Mike Bassett either! (though remember to stop it before he explains England’s formation!!)

(You can edit out those last lines for the blog!) 😉
